A small community of homeless roma peolpe are living, together with their families, in improvised shelters a few kilometers from central Bucharest, making their living by collecting recycable iron or performing hard jobs on daily bases. At the 1992 people census, Romania reported about 410,000 roma people, but further unofficial studies reveal a figure of about 1.7 million, from a total of 22 millions. Romanian Government efforts, sustained by EU minorities policy and programs were improving the condition of the roma community, especially in the educational field, but things regarding this issue are far from being solved.
